Add Style With A Vest

20161224_170031The couple had gotten a sitter for the evening so she and her husband could catch a movie with friends. With his and her busy work schedule, after school activities, household responsibilities, and kids colds- it was their first time out as a couple in 3 months.  After a long day, the wife ran into the bedroom and threw on t-shirt and jeans, grabbed her purse, and headed out the door.  It was no big deal.  It was just dinner and a movie right?  True.  However, when she arrived at the theater and saw her girlfriends (also busy moms) dressed nicely she felt so bad.  It’s okay.  I’m just sitting in a dark room staring a screen.  It’s no big deal.  If it wasn’t a big deal then why did she feel as if she’d missed something?

This time of year, with the chill in the air, it is so easy to just put on the “I give up, I just wanna be warm” outfit especially if you’re a busy mom. Don’t do it.  When you think about it there are only so many times with our busy schedules that we can get together with family and friends.  There are only so many date nights that we can have in the month.  Don’t waste these opportunities to look and feel your best. Enjoy every little moment spent with your family, friends, and spouse on outings.  Use these little moments to look and feel your best.

“Don’t wait for extraordinary opportunities, seize common occasions and make them great.” -Orison Swett Marden

One of my favorite ways to keep warm and look chic at the same time is by using a vest- puffer, fur, quilted, plaid, cargo, fleece, etc  Just about any vest seems to give your outfit that little extra oomph.  After a week of being sick, I finally managed to leave the house for an evening out with my husband.  We took it slow and went to Movie Tavern to see Star War’s Rogue One.  (I loved it.)  I threw on an easy black sweater and jeans.  However, the addition of the faux fur vest completed the outfit.  There is something that is just so chic about fur and animal prints! The Black Faux Fur Vest from SheIn was just the right touch for the evening. The quality of the vest  is good for the price, and it doesn’t shed excessively. I chose size small. It  fits my torso perfectly. The subtle hints of black and white in the fur add interest and make it easy to pair with many pieces.  The Black Faux Fur Vest from SheIn even has pockets.  SCORE!

Looking for a vest? Here are some tips for choosing a vest:

  • Choose your vest the same size you would a jacket.  You want it to fit snug but not tight to allow you to wear a shirt or sweater underneath.
  • Try to choose non-dry clean only pieces. This will save you when it comes to washing and drying.
  • Pay attention to the length of the vest.  A vest that is too short with full uncomfortable with cinched.
  • Have fun!  Remember a vest is an accessory like jewelry.  Play with color, prints, textures, and patterns to add jazz to an outfit.   Think of it as the finishing piece.
  • When in doubt choose: black, green, navy, red, or white to get you started.

Stay warm and chic!  Thanks for reading
