Hello!

I’m Jennifer- a native of Fort Worth, Texas.  I’ve lived here my entire life. I’m also a wife, mother, and elementary school teacher.  I’m married to best friend Jason, and together we have a daughter, Jocelyn.  You will see bits and pieces of my family throughout this blog as they are my everything, and my husband is my biggest champion.  So….what am I doing here on internet?

This whole process has actually been years in the making.  It began over 12 years ago when I first became an school teacher.  I went to work my first year and realized that I had no idea how to dress.  I looked around at the teachers in my hallway, and realized very quickly that I didn’t fit in at all.

I didn’t want to wear the ABC apple vest and sweaters as some of the older teachers wore. On the other hand, I didn’t want to be overly casual as many of the younger teachers were. You all know what I’m referring to. You’ve seen those teachers in workout attire, flip flops, and spaghetti straps.  This is way to casual for the workplace. Then there are those teachers who seem to have given up.  They are “frumpy”- coming to work dressed for a lazy Saturday morning.  No, this wasn’t me at all.

How do I dress professionally while being stylish and modest?  How I look nice when I work with sticky 6 and 7 year olds?  Stiletto heels are not appropriate for the playground. Pencil skirts and suits are not practical while squatting in the hallway to tie the shoe of a child.  So what do I wear to work each day?

Faced with with this dilemma, I discovered TLC’s What Not To Wear. By, watching this show I learned how to dress appropriately for an elementary school teacher.  I spent 2 to 3 years finding and purchasing my basics.  When the TV show What Not To Wear was cancelled (sob), I turned to social media for inspiration.

I then stumbled across a style account on Instagram, and soon discovered that there were thousands like it.  I was hooked!  Fashion, style, and inspiration all in the palm of my hand.   For years, I remained a passive viewer on Instagram.  Until, one day, I was inspired by a fellow fashionista to share my outfit of the day.

It was so rewarding to talk with others who appreciate style as I do. Soon, it became a creative outlet-because it allowed me to incorporate three things I love best- style (clothing pictures), teaching (tips), and writing (instagram post).  In continuation of my instagram account, I began this blog, Sassy Teacher Chic, as way to continue sharing style, tips, travels, and life’s little nuggets. I do not know everything. I have so much to learn. I’m no expert, all tips shared are my opinion, but I hope you find them somewhat helpful.  Thank you so much for being friends with me, and for your lovely comments.  You inspire me to grow.

Much Love,

Jennifer
