Liebster Award

Oh my, I’m stunned and yet so very excited!

The Liebster Award is given to “new” bloggers from other bloggers. The earliest case of the award goes as far back as 2011. Liebster in German means sweetest, kindest, nicest, dearest, beloved, lovely, kind, pleasant, valued, cute, endearing, and welcome.  Those expressions mean so much to me! This is especially when it comes unsolicited and unexpected from others.

I love the simplicity, elegance, and the unexpected pop of color.

My style is simple elegance shown in this dress from Loft, and the unexpected pop of color using a Loft Cardigan and Michael Kors bag.

I was nominated by fashionable Cindi of ForeignFreshFierce.com Thank you Cindi! I never thought I’d be noticed in the sea of new bloggers. Like so many other style influencers,  I work extremely hard on my blog and my instagram account to create quality content on consistent basis because I merely enjoy sharing.  I do not have a background in fashion, so I’m learning as I go. It’s also a big step for me to begin my blog because I have hesitated for so long.  However, I finally decided to take the plunge and I couldn’t be more ecstatic.

Here are the Rules to Accept the Nomiation: (1.) Post your award to your blog. (2.) Answer the questions that you were given from the blogger who nominated you. (3.) Nominate a few new bloggers you’ve discovered! (4.) Create 10 new questions for your nominees. (5.) Thank the blogger who nominated you and post a link to their blog.

Grab a cup of tea or coffee, curl up, and allow me to answer the following questions:

Questions for nominees:

1. What or who inspired you to begin blogging?

My mother and my husband both encouraged me to begin blogging years ago.  So many times I would tell them an idea and they would suggest that I share it. My husband, Jason, even created me a blogger account for me years ago. I looked at the blank page with uncertainty. “Nah”, I thought.  “Nobody would ever read it.”

Then I came across Wendy’s Lookbook.  I loved everything about it.  I went on to follow her on instagram to gain further inspiration.  From there I discovered Shirley B. Eniang of Shirley’s Wardrobe, Patricia Bright, Jean of ExtraPetite.com, Jess of WhatJessWore, Ann of Stylish.Petite, Sydney Summer of Sydnestyle.com, and Sara of Lofty.Closet.com- just to name a few. I’d unknowingly hit a gold mine- a whole community of everyday ladies who love to share their style.  I was hooked on instagram and YouTube. Slowly, I thought, “I can do this too!”

Eventually, I became friends with Sara of Lofty.Closet on Instagram. She, like me, is somewhat shy and conservative. However, over time her following grew and she decided to begin a blog.  Seeing her happily accomplishing her goal gave me the confidence to pursue mine.

I went to my mother again for advice.  She said, “Jennifer, life is too short. You should do what makes you happy, even if nobody sees it.” She was right. I realized that I had to do what I love. With that, I finally decided to finally begin my blog: SassyTeacherChic.com

Personal style doesn’t have to be expensive. Capture a chic look in this budget friendly dress by Target.

Sassy because I try to incorporate a little livelinessn especially using color, with my feminie style. Teacher because I aim to teach my style and the things I learn along the way by giving tips. (I’m also an elementary school teacher) Chic because I’m all about simplicity.

2. What company would it be your dream to collaborate with?

Hands down, I’d love to collaborate with Express.  I love everything about that store.  The clothing just fits!  It’s always on point in style, price, rewards, and perks.  In fact 90% of my wardrobe is from Express.

3. Where is your favorite place to shop?

Lol, that’s easy to answer! Express!!

4. If you could live anywhere in the world, what would it be?

My goodness, that is a tough question.  There are still so many places I want to see.  However, out of all the places I’ve traveled to, I would live somewhere on the west coast of the United States.  The scenery is so beautiful. In just a few hours drive you can explore Cascade Mountains, The Mojave Desert, the Pacific Coast, the Hoh National Rainforest, Multnomah Falls, and the Giant Sequoia Trees.

5. What is your favorite part about blogging?

When I was 7, I wanted to be a teacher, and would tutor my classmates.  At 13, I dreamed of being a writer. I have written several short stories and even fanficiton. (Gasp!) When I was 17, I fell in love with style and dreamed of modeling, but I was much too shy to pursue it.  At 22, I wanted to be a creative event coordinator/party planner. In line with this desire, I graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington with a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing learning how to market myself to others, and utilize social media in the process.

However, I eventually returned to my original desire to teach in 2004. (Are you curious as to why?  Stay tuned for an upcoming post: How I Became A Teacher.) By blogging I get to fulfill all of these childhood dreams! I teach style by way of tips, I write new content by means of my post, I model my outfits, and create using photography, and social media.  It’s a lot of work, but I couldn’t be happier. I’ve found my creative outlet at last.

Blogging has allowed me to reach out and incorporate all areas of my interest.

Blogging has allowed me to reach out and incorporate all areas of my personal interest.

6. Who takes your photos for your blog?

Me! I use a tripod and set my timer. It takes a while to capture, just what I’m looking for, but I’ve become very good at it. Every once in a while my husband, Jason of jandjstudio.com  has time to capture of photo. However, he’s often off doing commercial shoots and doesn’t make it home before my outfits of the day shot. So the tripod will have to do.

7. Who is your favorite style icon/influencer?

My goodness, there are just so many.  Overall, I would have to say that Jean from ExtraPetite.com is my favorite style icon.  She is everything that I want to be: feminine, modest, classy, and current.

8. What is your accessory that you must have when you go out?

I never leave home without one of my favorite handbags. I have a small obsession with designer bags.  Being on a teacher’s salary, I save my pennies and purchase one each year.  I have my eye on one right now. I can’t wait till it goes on sale.

9. What is your favorite season to wear?

That is a hard question!  I think it would have to be both Spring and Fall. These two seasons are full of color here in North Texas.  Both Spring and Fall allow me to utilize my full wardrobe. Texas weather is bipolar.  It can be freezing ice on the ground one day, perfect temperatures the next, followed by dreadful heat the following day.  So in both Spring and Fall, I can literally wear my entire wardrobe.

10. What is the best advice to someone thinking about blogging what would it be?

I would let them know that blogging is hard work. It’s not something that you can just throw together one night and expect to see results. It’s not something that you do to merely to gain money or fame. You should blog because you have a desire to share and help others by way of your “voice”.  If your motivation is anything other than this, you may find that you’ll give up easily.  Remain consistent, be true to your brand, and have fun. Eventually, by doing what you love, the incentives will come.

And…..that’s a wrap! Once again, thank you so much Cindi of ForeignFreshFierce.com for nominating me for the Liebester Award. Words are not enough to show my appreciation.

Congratulations on your nomination. That is so exciting. I started blogging because friends said they thought I would be good at it. I’ve always loved fashion, styling and dressing friends and family, or at least helping them shop and find deals so it’s a natural progression. I have more than full time job already so I really struggle with having the time to devote to it as much as I’d like. I would love to do it full time, but there are also the doubts of whether or not the market is already saturated with bloggers and what would make people want to read my blog when there are so many others out there. Still struggling to find my “space” in the arena so to speak. Again, congratulations on this awesome nomination and good luck!

Yes, it’s going to be a little challenging once the school year begins again. However, I’m quite determined to make it work. Thank you for kind words.

Congratulations Jennifer! I stumbled across this old post and appreciate the shout out! 🙂 I enjoyed reading and learning more about you and the why and how of how you started blogging. I thought that Ann Taylor was your favorite store but I stand corrected!

Thank you so much Jess! Yes, I really do like Ann Taylor and Loft, but Express is my absolute favorite store.
